An important bill that could affect where you live

METRO CITIES LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT!

The House Property and Local Tax Division is scheduled to release its division bill this Friday, March 11th.  This bill, which will eventually become an article of the House Omnibus Tax Bill, is likely to contain state aid/credit cuts and possibly provisions similar to the property tax freeze bill (HF 481) authored by Rep. Runbeck (who chairs the House Property and Local tax Division) that was heard last week and laid over for possible inclusion in the omnibus bill. Metro Cities strongly opposes this bill, and testified in opposition to it last week.

HF 481 freezes city levies for 2012 and 2013, with no exceptions (this includes no exceptions for debt service on bonds issued after June 1, 2011). Cities could increase levies only with voter approval. The bill severely limits local taxing authority and decision making. A summary of HF 481 is included below.  Again, Metro Cities strongly opposes this bill as well as further reductions of state aids and credits to cities.

ACTION:  Please contact your state representative to express your concern/opposition to proposals that severely limit local decision making and budgetary processes. Click here for a list of legislators by city. Please click here for contact information for all House members and click here for a summary of the bill.

Great Meeting today with Shorewood Staff

Had a great meeting today with our fantastic city staff!!! We discussed many different things: things that are going well, things we can improve upon, internal and external factors that affect the way things work, and learned a ton about our city!

This truly is a great place to live and will continue to improve if we keep up these forward-thinking meetings.

Trail Committee

we need people interested in the trail concept for shorewood. this will be a multi-level process using old plans, creating new plans and listening to residents.

please let me or brian heck, city administrator, know if you want to join us!

a month into it!

hello shorewood!  well, it's been a month - 2 regular meetings, 2 executive sessions, 2 park commissions, 1 joint cities meeting with Excelsior and Tonka Bay to discuss collaboration, and numerous meetings with staff to learn about the INSIDE workings of our city.

I have learned a lot, needless to say.

I hope you will join us at the next visioning meeting, thursday, feb 24 at 6:30 at Southshore Center with members of the other city councils, mayors and staff.  Your voice is valuable and we want to hear it!!!

The city of shorewood is a great place, with great staff, and I look forward to the many months ahead!
